Color, Contour, & Craft: Modernizing a Redmond Heritage

Situated in the peaceful Northeast Bellevue, originally built in 1975, the split-level home underwent a thoughtful renovation that honors its original architecture, combining and opening the kitchen to the main dining and living space while infusing refined modern design

The homeowners, originally from Germany, brought a strong passion for mid-century design, art, and European craftsmanship to the project. Their vision was clear: honor the home's character by pairing authentic architectural color theory with high-performance, precision-engineered German millwork.

  • Base & Tall Cabinets: Styled in BONDI matt olive grey, offering a soft, muted tone with a super-matt lacquer finish that feels grounded and contemporary. Integrated with a DOMO Rail system—including a dedicated knife holder—to keep essential tools within reach while keeping the countertops completely clear.

  • Upper Cabinet Accent (Green): Handle-less upper cabinets in glossy LARGO lacquer, finished in Les Couleurs Le Corbusier vert anglais. This iconic shade pays homage to mid-century architectural history and brings high-gloss depth and dynamism to the room.

  • Upper Cabinet Accent (Frosty White): Complementary glossy upper cabinets in SIRIUS-A frosty white, introducing light, clean contrast to open up the upper visual field to the outside evergreen trees.

  • Kitchen Island Display: A focal point wrapped in ORLANDO-C walnut le midi laminate, introducing natural wood grain and organic warmth essential to mid-century aesthetics. The island features an integrated channel system (Contino) for a handle-free profile, in carbon color, plus a built-in Leicht open shelving nook backed in an LED-lit Le Corbusier vert anglais—acting like a storefront display window to showcase curated art objects.

  • Dining Area Storage: An elegant Leicht library in the adjacent dining area anchors the space, thoughtfully proportioned to display artful pottery, lush plants, and books.

  • Surfaces & Countertops: INALCO Azalai surfaces deliver a striking, high-performance aesthetic with exceptional durability.

  • Fixtures & Hardware: The Brizo Litze Pull-Down Kitchen Faucet in Stainless adds a subtle industrial-chic touch to the main sink area.

  • Lighting: Architectural illumination anchored by a Flos Globall Pendant defining the stairwell and a Flos Smithfield ceiling fixture in white, providing clean, modern overhead light.

By pairing ultra-glossy statement surfaces with low-sheen matt tones, rich walnut textures, and carefully chosen lighting fixtures, this kitchen celebrates the seamless intersection of Pacific Northwest mid-century heritage and modern German design.
